Network Drivers.
I stumbled accross something on a site I didnt know could happen.
They were running off the Universal Driver client 4.7.2, even though no Server-side was installed. No service running, no revparam.
I expected it to fail (due to my obviously mistaken belief 4.7.2 is embedded to want a server) but it does not.
I am used to having the service running, with a revparam so any attempt to chnage the driver back to 2.1 will fail access. If the service fails to start, or the service is running but the revparam removed, things fail etc...
My question is:
Is there any advantage, or disadvantage, to running 4.7.2 instead of 2.1 for a non-Universal Driver server site since it is an allowed scenario?

Understood about the EOL.
With no service, I have never even tried to run anything but 2.1. I am not sure who set that up.
They have a 30 user licence. Late on a Friday afternoon they were still using over half of that simultaneously....
End of line.
I do both of those as part of my 'full review'. OI to 9.4.6 with updated OEngine.dll file (if it wasn’t already up to that point), full SRP upgrades on the Server, a 'local' client reinstall (as has been discussed recently), UD install, etc. I finish with a full GFE check and a LH Resize now I have the UD running (since most of our older sites still have old default 1024 size tables). I tend to do these in the middle of the night for obvious reasons.
Send an email to make the client's IT upgrade the workstation's OI Client & SRP Controls (since most of the time we dont have Admin).
The problem is that
1) I am not the person to do upgrades etc anymore. There was a good couple of years where I got the UD count from like 2 or 3 clients to near 30. It has stagnated since despite my own preaching...
2) Even when I install the UD, I come to find later a colleague has turned it off 'because there was a problem, so I turned it off and the problem went away'.
