Large Save-Lists

I got the following question from my client. Anyone got an answer?

"Sometimes when the saved list is really big, OI saves the record in SYSLISTS with *1, *2, etc. Do you know at what list size will OI do this?"

  • Kevin,

I am pretty sure this is a throw back to when OI was 16-bit and no record size could exceed 64K. However, some processes like this would set the threshold to be smaller, like 32K. I do not recall the exact size these were supposed to be. It is also possible that Revelation increased the size since we are now running 32bit but still kept some threshold so the records would not get impossibly large. I would check to see how big one of the records is and see if it comes close to a nice round number (e.g., 32K or 64K).
