Raw Style Bits

Several years ago posted\presented an article on Raw Style Bits and how to better control an OI edittable, editlines, and labels. One of your examples was a 'paper form' used for manually filling out that you replicated in an OI form. The form was divided into sections with small font labels and data entry areas without the standard editline box. Is this still available somewhere on your forum?

  • You are referring to the 2005 Las Vegas presentation called Extreme Makeover - Form Designer Edition. We have our presentations available on our wiki. Here is the page for the 2005 presentations. We created the SRP Style Editor to help us experiment with Raw Style Bits, which you can download from the link I just provided.

Note, the ability to create that "paper form" is not as easy as it used to be due to the changes in the way Windows renders controls. Your mileage may vary, but the last time I tried it the edit controls always displayed a border of some kind. We've resorted to using the SRP EditTable - with a mixture of cell merge properties - to provide a similar experience. Granted, it requires that we marshal data back and forth to the OLE control, but it has given us better control over the UI look and feel.
